Philip conducted our Summer 2003 Concert.
Philip hails from County Durham where he took up piano lessons at the age of 6, closely followed by violin and organ. He continued his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow where he spent many happy hours accompanying singers and instrumentalists in lessons and recitals. He successfully coached the winning vocal ensembles for the Hugh S Roberton prize in two successive years and graduated in 1988 with a BA in Music Performance, awarded by the University of Glasgow.
Since leaving college, Philip has had an extensive career in Musical Theatre. He was Musical Director of the 1999 UK Tour of The Phantom of the Opera and Associate Musical Director of Les Miserables in London's West End in 2000. He has conducted, played & programmed keyboards on many other shows in London and on tour including Evita, Beauty & the Beast, The Invisible Man, The Curse of the Werewolf and Cats. In the past year he has worked with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on a concert version of Les Miserables and with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall on Peter Pan. He was a keyboard player in the critically acclaimed band for Ragtime that recently closed in the West End.
At the moment Philip is working regularly on Les Miserables and We Will Rock You in London. He is also the pianist of Trio Fuego, an Argentinean tango trio with a techno twist, which performs recitals round the country. In another guise he is keyboard player in local covers band Alter Ego and can be seen gigging round the area.
Philip is currently working on the arrangements for a second album, which he records and produces himself. He arranged and produced the album Barry James - Centre Stage, which was released this Spring. He has also written music for television.
Arlesey has been home to Philip and his wife and two boys since 1992 and he is happy to help Kate and Bob in their exciting new venture of Vivace at the Coach House.
