Peter Broadbent

Peter Broadbent is one of Britain's most respected conductors and chorus masters, acknowledged for his awareness of style, breadth of experience and commitment to contemporary music. He enjoys a versatile career with an extensive repertoire ranging from Baroque Music performed on period instruments, to contemporary music, including many first performances. Broadbent has worked with the London Mozart Players, Divertimenti Chamber Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Southern Sinfonia and the BBC Singers, broadcasting frequently on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

In 1988, Broadbent formed the Joyful Company of Singers, which rapidly established itself as one of Europe's leading chamber choirs. The JCS has won an impressive list of National and International Competitions. Performances in the UK have included most of the major music festivals, including several "Proms" appearances, and they have given concerts throughout Europe and this year made their USA debut tour. The JCS has recorded CDs for Chandos, ASV and EMI Classics, as well as recording TV and film soundtracks (most recently Blood of the Vikings for BBC2).

Peter Broadbent appears as an adjudicator at International Choral Competitions all over Europe and in the UK, including the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition, and gives seminars and masterclasses in the UK, Europe, the USA and Canada. Recent engagements have included concerts at the Bath International Festival, with the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra and Kodály Chorus in Hungary and the Wratislavia Cantans Festival in Poland. He is currently developing and directing a series of Choral Conducting Courses for the Association of British Choral Directors. Future engagements include concerts with the Durban Serenade Choir and the National Chamber Choir in Dublin.
